Macomb County Community Mental Health Appoints New Director of Substance Use:

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (December 13, 2024) – Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) announced today the promotion of Nicole Gabriel to Director of Substance Use.

“Gabriel offers a wealth of experience in substance use and has a proven track record of success at MCCMH,” said Traci Smith, CEO of MCCMH. “Her leadership and expertise will be instrumental in enhancing our substance use services to meet the needs of our community members.”

Gabriel became interim Director of Substance Use in January 2024 when former director Helen Klingert was appointed interim Chief Operations Officer (COO). While serving as the interim Director of Substance Use, she effectively managed Macomb County service contracts, oversaw the Substance Use department, and maintained strong provider relationships. As the Director of Substance Use, Gabriel will continue to lead the department, improving contracting, reporting, claims, auditing, and provider management to elevate MCCMH’s services.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to be in a leadership role in the Substance Use Department,” said Gabriel. ” I look forward to advancing our department’s initiatives to increase access to care by ensuring we have a robust provider network and improving outcomes for the people we serve.”

During Gabriel’s 17 years at MCCMH, she has made significant contributions to the organization. She steadily advanced her career within the organization, serving as AIM Coordinator, Case Manager, Clinical Supervisor, Substance Use Coordinator, and Substance Use Administrator. With extensive experience as a Limited Licensed Psychologist and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, she is well-versed in serving individuals with anxiety, depression, and substance use disorder (SUD). Gabriel completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University and received her Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Psychology from Wayne State University.
